Product Description

The fan back and typical bentwood curves will never go out of style: the classic beech wood bistro chair is available in walnut and black finish, with or without armrests or optional seat cushion. Bentwood is bent solid wood. The process of bending wood without it breaking was developed around 1830: the master carpenter Michael Thonet succeeded in using steam to give wood a stable bent shape - steam causes the lignin, which is responsible for the strength of wood, to soften and the piece of wood can be bent. The process is still called the Thonet process after its inventor. Beech wood in particular is very easy to bend into a beautiful shape due to its comparatively short wood fibers.
